2025 is coming to an end and I’m sure you’re stressed out and trying to finish the year strong.
But, just know that you’re not alone.
Keep pushing.
You’re almost to Holiday break!

My 10 Biggest Lessons & Learnings of 2025 👇
1. LinkedIn is a career hack for social media professionals
When you invest in your LinkedIn, job opportunities tend to pursue you. So don’t overthink it. Just start posting. Share your wins, insights, lessons, and learnings - and then optimize. When you invest in your LinkedIn, you are investing in yourself and in your career.
So start posting today! You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need to start.
2. Social is…bigger than just social
Social media is so much more than a place to “make posts” and it’s more than just filling up a social media calendar. Social is the heartbeat of brands. And as social media professionals, we need to use social as a brand & community building engine.
It’s bigger than making posts.
You are building brand and community every single day.
3. Your Sanity > Your Job
No job is worth your mental health and your sanity. None. So take care of yourself and your mental health.
This field is exhausting, as we have to move at the speed of culture - which is pretty fast. So make sure you are prioritizing your mental health, or you will get burnt out in this field fast.
4. Making Campaigns & Moments > Making Posts
This is a big one and easily my biggest lesson of the year. If you want to become a world-class brand on social - then you need to stop focusing on making posts, and start focusing on making brand campaigns and moments. Then your “posts” are just outputs and deliverables from those campaigns and moments.
This learning and mindset shift has been a game changer for me.
5. Speaking to Your Work & Getting Buy-In
One of the greatest (and most underrated) skills that a social media professional can possess is the ability to make and sell in decks. Yes, decks. Why? Because it’s one thing to have a great concept, idea, stunt, or strategy - it’s another to get full buy-in on it and get leadership excited.
I wrote a whole issue on this topic if you want to learn more about creating and selling in decks. Check it out here!
6. Social is supposed to be fun
Is working in social media stressful and exhausting? Yes. Is it annoying when Brad from finance keeps telling you that his niece can do TikTok better than you? Yes. Is it frustrating when your boss keeps asking you to “go viral”? Absolutely.
But at the end of the day, social media is a lot of fun. We get to create content and brand experiences that consumers share in their group chats. We get to message and interact with brand fans and make their days.
Is it tough? Yes. It is.
But don’t forget about all the great work you get to do. Have fun with it. Because if your content is fun to create, then it’s fun to consume.
7. Trends are great…but don’t go all-in with them
It’s always fun to jump on a trend and be one of the first brands to do so. It’s fun to be a part of the conversation and hijack a trend. But jumping on trends is not a strategy. It’s a tactic.
So instead of spending all the time in the world creating and jumping on trends - spend more time listening to your community and creating a social DNA that enables your brand to be an always-on brand & community building engine. Trust me, you’ll get better results.
8. Be on the Offense
This was a big learning for me this year. As social media professionals, we can’t just sit and wait for the next campaign, brand moment, or launch. Instead of sitting back - we need to be aggressive and be on the offense. Bring new ideas to the table, bring a social stunt to the table, bring a creator collaboration to the table.
A gap or empty space in your social calendar is just opportunity waiting for you.
So don’t wait for things to happen. Go and make things happen. Maybe this is just my competitiveness showing. But I truly believe that we need to be on the offense.
9. Social Reporting is a Must
Do you want to unlock bigger budgets? Get more buy-in? Have more freedom with what you’re posting? Social media reporting is the hack to achieve all of this. No, social media reporting isn’t glamorous and it’s not the most exciting thing for social media professionals. But it backs you up and it’s a moment to let your work do the talking.
Make social media reporting a priority in 2026.
10. Risk & Creativity Wins
Social media is a competition for brands to see who is the most creative. There, I said it. Your social media strategy is your brands foundation and DNA on social media. It’s essential. But that’s only the beginning.
A good social media strategy makes you a good brand on social media. However, risk and creativity makes you a world-class brand on social media.
So don’t be afraid to pitch and create some fun, wacky, out-there social posts and campaigns. It might just work. It did for me in 2025 🤷♂️
