Social media is an exhausting, yet rewarding field.

I talk to other social media professionals daily and almost everyone I talk to has the sentiment.

They love the work they do. They love social media.

But they are burnt out, exhausted, stressed beyond belief, and running on E.

This is so common in this field, as this field and title demands so much from us. We schedule posts, we run campaigns, we design content, we brief content, we serve as talent managers, we run events, we capture content at events, we write copy, we chase the never-ending trends of social.

The list goes on and on.

Plus, social moves at the speed of culture…which is fast af.

It’s exhausting, I get it.

But, how do we get past this? How does one react when they are stressed beyond belief?

Here are a few tips, thoughts, pieces of advice, and considerations for those who are running on E and want to throw in the towel.

😅 No job is worth your mental health. I said what I said. No job is worth your mental health. If your current job is taking a toll on you and you’re just barely hanging on by a thread - look to explore new opportunities. The grass is greener on the other side...I promise you.

🚀 We’re not building rocket ships. Social is serious…but at the same time it isn’t. We’re driving the role of brand, driving community, making consumers laugh throughout their day. We’re creating content our consumers are sharing in the group texts, we’re creating memorable brand experiences at scale. Don’t overcomplicate and overthink social. This is not complex. We are not building rocket ships.

😜 Social media is supposed to be fun. If your content is fun to create…then it’s fun to consume. I love this field and I feel like I sometimes tend to forget all the great work we get to do. Have fun with the content you are creating. Have fun engaging with consumers. Have fun bringing big campaigns to life with your team. If you’re not having as much fun as you used to - maybe look to explore new opportunities.

🏝️Go on vacation. Take a break. You deserve it. Don’t be afraid to take some time off and go on a vacation. Even if it’s just for a few days. Maybe you just need a quick breather and some time on the beach.

🤝Seek community. Just know that you are not alone. Connect with other social media professionals, get to know others in the field, and just know that others are stressed too. We need each other.

🏋️‍♀️ Get Active. I love working out and training - whether it’s my morning workout sessions or playing some basketball after I clock out for the day. Get moving, get your mind off of social, and go hit some PR’s. This is my secret to keeping my sanity - I love my morning workouts more than anything.

Keep your head up!

You got this and I hope you found this helpful.

As social media professionals, we need to consistently be inspired. Inspired by posts, captions, campaigns, and so much more.
